From cleaning the kitchen to clearing an area in the living room, most professionals are always organising something even when they're home. However, offices are also considered as private spaces. In reality, office employees sometimes lose touch on productivity and get too relaxed and disorganised.
So why is it necessary to get out of your comfort zone and actually clean your space? If you want to advance your career, you should probably get rid of the obstacle right in front of you: your pile of clutter. You'll find that decluttering it isn't as hard as you think it is. Here's how to do it:
Develop a Filing System
First thing's first, get rid of that huge pile of paperwork that you always try hard to ignore.
A filing system shouldn't be bombarded with useless memos or a pile of unopened mail. Organise your office by picking up folders from the supply cabinet. It is advisable to label each folder by subject matter or by date. Just make sure that you will be able to maintain this level of organising your files otherwise you'll find yourself without a space to work on.
Organise the Documents in Your Computer
Who says organising soft copies shouldn't be a priority? In offices, you have to be able to ride with the rush hour and never-ending tasks. You need to be able to deliver all the necessary outputs within a crucial deadline and organise computer files to keep track with all online invitations.
After you go through your documents, it'll be quite disappointing if you then just let it go to waste. Don't forget to backup files on an external hard or flash drive to avoid losing work just in case your computer system crashes.
Organise Your Office Weekly
Unorganised office space is a path to an inefficient work life. Reserving 15 minutes after lunch to organise things isn't that bad at all. All you'll have to do is file necessary paperwork, scan business cards, organise computer files and spreadsheets, and put items all of it back where they belong. Commit yourself to the life of organised space and you'll find yourself stress-free and more productive.
Once you have decluttered your personal space at work, you're going to feel more relaxed and do more tasks. Make sure that you will not go back to your old lifestyle by doing weekly clean-ups a habit. Your office will start to be so organised and your time will be much more flexible that those 15 minutes that you have a schedule to clean up you can use to do yoga or meditate to help clean up your mind.
