Get things off the floor
When choosing filing cabinets, bookcases, and storage shelves, think vertically. Pick something that can reach the ceiling, if possible, to utilise floor space more efficiently. This will also put more items at eye level so it will be easier to search for documents or supplies.
Make use of boxes
Are you looking for a better means for safekeeping important paperwork? File boxes would work nicely, but make sure they are properly labelled and filed before placing them on storage racks. A small one without a lid can also serve as a great desk caddy for sorting paper pins and pens.
Consider rotary storage
Compared to traditional filing systems, these units offer greater storage capacity and are ideal for limited spaces. They are formed from a rotating rack with two sides that are made accessible via a foot pedal. These can replace multiple filing cabinets yet take up only a quarter of the space.
Go for something mobile
Imagine metal shelving that you can move from one side of the wall to the other. You can just slide it out of the way when you want to access your built-in bookcase. Some high density archive shelving that allows for one aisle would be a great space saver too.
Opt for multi-functional
Rather than install something good for housing only specific items, why not go for integrated solutions? A folding desk that comes with a cabinet is already available on the market. There is also a loft bed that is combined with a desk - definitely worth considering for home office setups.
Keep it fully enclosed
Here is another brilliant idea for people who work from home. You can convert your extra closet into an office and keep it out of sight when you’re not using it. Bear in mind that it can be hard to make any adjustments in the future so you better plan it well so it can accommodate your changing needs.
